Public awareness session on organ donation for the staff of DHI (India) Water & Environment Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi

  • On March 13th, 2014, an awareness session on “Organ Donation” was conducted by MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR for the staff of DHI (India) Water & Environment Pvt. Ltd at their office in Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi.

     

    DHI is an independent, international consulting and research organization who is experts in “Water Environment.” Formerly known as Danish Hydraulic Institute, DHI has been approved by the Danish Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation as an Authorized Technological Service Institute. MIKE by DHI software has made knowledge of water environments accessible to water professionals around the globe for more than 25 years.

     

    The initiative to have the session on organ donation was taken by Mr Nakul Butta, Manager – MIKE by DHI. Nakul, an electrical engineer by profession. He is a passionate Philanthropist at heart who single-handedly raised more than 100,000 rupees for Concern Indian Foundation by running the 2013 Airtel Delhi half marathon towards the cause of disability. His family has the same ideals and together have pledged their organs.

     

    Dr.Muneet Sahi, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation addressed the group. She was accompanied by Ms Sonam Choeden. The session covered key issues like organ donation and the need for it, the concept of brain death, difference between coma and brain death, legal aspects related to organ donation, myths and the hurdles faced in the area of organ donation. She also spoke of the role MOHAN Foundation plays in the field of organ donation.

     

    The talk was followed by a brief question answer session and important organ donation helpline numbers were also shared with the participants.

     

    The session was attended by 11 employees and 10 of them picked up donor cards.
