Public awareness session for resident welfare association members in Sector 47, Gurgaon

  • On April 2, 2015, a talk on organ donation was conducted at community center, Sector-47, Gurgaon for the Resident’s Welfare Association members of sector-38, 39, 46 & 47.

     

    The session was organised with the help of Shri Vijay Kumar (SHO, Sadar Police Station) who supports the cause and proactively takes such initiatives.  

     

    The session began with Ms. Pallavi Kumar asking the participants as to that how many  of them have pledged for eye donation and also what did they think about donating other organs of their body upon death. None of the participants had signed up for eye donation so Ms. Kumar then explained the process of eye donation and further gave in depth knowledge of concepts of organ donation and transplantation like difference between cardiac death and brain death, types of donations, what organs and tissues can de donated and donor card.

     

    Ms. Kumar also explained about the Transplant Law of India and myths related to organ donation. At the end of the talk a short film on brain death was shown to provide clarity on the said subject.

     

    The participants response was very enthusiastic. They appreciated the cause and came up with many suggestions. Many of them also came forward and offered their help in organising more such awareness talks.

     

    33 people attended the talk and 47 donor cards were picked up.
