Pan India Organ Donation Awareness Program in Barclays Shared Services Pvt Ltd

  • Barclays Shared Services Pvt Ltd invited MOHAN Foundation for a Pan India awareness program on Organ Donation for their staff on 18th July 2018 at 4.30 PM. Staff from offices in Chennai, Noida, Pune and Mumbai attended the session through video conferencing. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer and Mr. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive were deputed for the session.

    Last year the Chennai office had conducted a session for their premises only. This year it was decided to have the session for all branches. Before the session Mr. Siva Shankar gave green ribbons and information brochures to the staff. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Siva Shankar were felicitated by a small gift by the company. There was a welcome speech by Rajesh T K, Director – Barclays Pune branch which was followed by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde’s Concept talk on Organ Donation.

    She started the talk with various deceases that cause the organs to fail. She explained the need for organ donation and the law that is governed by the Indian government and its penalties. She further explained the stages at which organs every organs and tissues will be donated. She stressed on the topic of Brain Death and Organ Donation. A video was played in between the presentation to explain about Brain Death.

    She explained in detail the myths on organ donation. The session went on for 1 hour. There were some questions asked by the participants were:

    1. How do we know whether the organs are going to the right person?
    2. If I donate my organs, will my family get any preference?
    3. Will the recipient family know who the donor is?
    4. Can we store the organs for so long?
    5. What is the actual time of death if the doctors confirm that the patient is brain death?

    In the Chennai premises, 70 staff attended the session and 40 registered as donors and picked their donor card. MOHAN Foundation had organised a quiz for the staff and winners were given prizes at the end of the talk.  The session ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Subroto Ghosh, Director - Noida branch. MOHAN Foundation thanks Barclays for creating awareness with their staff.
