Organ donation sensitisation activities at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital

  • From 5th to 7th August 2014, the staff nurses of Rajiv Gandhi Government General hospital (RGGGH) participated in an organ donation promotion program. This was organised by MOHAN Foundation and Cadaver Transplant Programme. The three days programme was planned with the staff nurses from the different department in the hospital. 

     

    The programme had the followings sessions 

    • Welcome address  and  Introduction 
    • Overview on organ donation programme in RGGGH 
    • Quiz and Activities 
    • Suggestion and Vote of thanks 

     

    The main aim of the programme was to build rapport with the staff nurses and to motivate them to promote organ and tissue donation in RGGGH. It also aimed to sensitise all the medical and non medical staff about the importance of organ donation. The staff nurses were informed about the number of donations and given examples of special donor cases. In the quiz they were tested for their knowledge of brain death, statistics, working with RGGGH and fun elements.

     

    Mrs. Mahalakshmi RMO RGGGH expressed that she will support us from her side during the case coordination. Dr. J. Amalorpavanathan, Convenor - Cadaver Transplant Programme applauded the staff nurses who  are maintaining the Potential Brain Death patient and working hard to promote organ donation in RGGGH. His talk was motivating and encouraging for the staff nurses.  He requested the nurses to counsel for cornea donation.  

     

    Totally 85 staff nurses participated and shared their opinion and experience about the organ donation.   Highlight was that a participating nurse was on duty during the first deceased donation and transplantation in RGGGH. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the quiz. On the final day the Matron asked MOHAN Foundation to conduct a CME for the Staff nurses about the maintenance of the potential donor.

     

    On 6th August 2014, the transplant coordinators, Sunita A. T. Jeyabal, Prakash and Ananth distributed green ribbons to all the department staff as well as explained to them about organ donation and asked for their support during donation cases. Dr. Vimala, Dean RGGGH showed her support to the cause by pinning a green ribbon. The transplant coordinators also distributed the green ribbons in outpost police station. The policemen mentioned that they will surely help in all the procedure while case coordination. The requested MOHAN Foundation to do sensitization in the police station in the neighboured districts.
