Organ donation awareness programme at Sri Venkateshwara College of Nursing, Thalambur

  • On the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day, MOHAN Foundation organized an awareness programme for the young budding nurses at Sri Venkateshwara College of Nursing, Thalambur on 27th November 2012. 

     

    A hundred and fifty students attended the session. The session started with a Welcome Address by Prof. Mrs. Kamala Subbian, Principal, Sri Venkateshwara College of Nursing. It was followed by a presentation given by Ms. Kavitha, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, on the Concept of Organ Donation. She explained the concepts of brain death, difference between natural death and brain death, live and deceased donors and organs and tissues that can be donated.  She also explained about the importance of Donor Card. Ms. Sujatha, Information Systems Manager, MOHAN Foundation, elucidated the role of Transplant Coordinators and also shared her experience as transplant coordinator at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai with donor story. She highlighted the role played by nurses in the entire process of organ donation and transplantation.

     

    At end of the session 4 students picked up the donor card and others promised to pick the donor card after discussing with the parents. The session came to end by Vote of thanks given by Mrs. Irin Praveen, Vice principal, Sri Venkateshwara College of Nursing.
