Organ Donation awareness talk for 77 Bn CRPF, Raj Bhavan Camp

  • In the buffer zone of the Guindy National park, is a camp of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 77Bn on duty for the safety of Governor of Tamil Nadu.  MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness program by this camp at Raj Bhavan, Chennai on 04th January 2017.

    The program was conducted by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Siva Shankar of MOHAN Foundation in their training hall. Green ribbons, information flyers and Organ Donation Helpline Number stickers were given to them.

    Ms. Jincy Philip, Deputy Commandant, B/77 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force welcomed Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Mr. Siva Shankar to the audience which was followed by a video on Tamil Nadu and Organ Donation.

    To make the session interactive, Dr Hemal asked the gathering a few questions – “has anyone donated blood”, "has anyone heard the term “BRAIN DEATH” which made them.

    To make this concept clear, Dr. Hemal started the presentation by explaining the activities of MOHAN Foundation, she then went on to explain what, why, how and when of Organ Donation. The presentation showed the details about the procedure of transplantation of organs, tests that are taken by the doctors to declare “BRAIN DEATH” and myths on Organ Donation.

    Followed by Q & A session held for 10 minutes.

    The question asked was:

    Why does it take a long time to return the body to the family after the organs have been donated?

    Finally a poem was recited by a CRPF jawan on Organ Donation and a video that explained “BRAIN DEATH” was played for the audience.

    Ms. Jincy Philip thanked MOHAN Foundation and SBI Foundation for spreading information.  

    Around 100 CRPF jawans, officers and clerical staff attended the program and 25 participants signed and picked up a donor card to support organ donation.
