Organ Donation awareness programme at Kaar Technologies, Chennai

  • To mark the World Organ Donation Day, on 27th November 2012, MOHAN Foundation was invited to do an organ donation awareness programme for the employees of Kaar Technologies. The employees attended the session in 5 batches. An organ donation awareness film was screened for them to get a glimpse of the issues that would be covered in the session. Ms. Jessi, Transplant Coordinator, then explained the following to the employees:

     

    *Organ donation concepts

     

    *What is brain death?

     

    *Difference between natural death and brain death

     

    *Transplantation of Human Organs Act

     

    *Time factor involved in Organ Transplantation

     

    The importance of carrying a donor card was emphasized and the employees actively listened to the presentation. Few of the questions raised at the end of the presentation were:

     

    1. Can a patient in coma stage donate organs?

     

    2. Will there be any monetary benefit for the family post organ donation?

     

    3. Should the family contact MOHAN Foundation if a person is declared brain dead at the hospital after picking up the donor card?

     

    4. Will there be any commercial dealing in organ allocation?

     

    5. What is the procedure for a patient to get registered with the cadaver transplant programme?

     

    More than 110 employees attended the session and 82 employees picked the donor card.The efforts of Ms. Malini, Human Resource Manager, Kaar Technologies should be appreciated in organising a well coordinated  programme on this special day!
