Organ Donation Awareness for Police Personnel

  • On February 17th, 18th and 21st 2012, an Organ Donation Awareness was done for the police personnel at Egmore and St. Peter’s School, Royapuram, as part of HCL’s DAAN project. More than 1000 police personnel participated in batches. Ms. Sujatha, Ms. Veena and Ms. Jessi gave presentations on the basic concepts of Organ Donation and also emphasized their pivot role in the recently added G.O. (MS) No. 86, Health and Family Welfare (Z1) Department, dated: 26.02.2011.

     

    The Govt. Order states about:

    • Visit to the accident places by the investigation officers
    • Cadaver Organ Transplant
    • Post-Mortem examination in medico-legal cases
    • Procedures prescribed
    • Orders issued

     

    They were introduced to the importance and need of Organ Transplant. Few questions raised by them were:

    • Is coma, brain death?
    • Can HIV/Aids infected individuals donate their organs?
    • How is organ allocation done in Tamil Nadu?

     

    The support given by police in arranging “Green Corridor” for donor Hithendiran’s case was recalled and they were appreciated for the great work done.
