Observation Visit of Madras Christian College Students

  • The session on Organ Donation was conducted to a group of seventy undergraduate students from the Department of Social Work, Madras Christian College. The students visited the MOHAN Foundation along with their faculty members Mr. Joshua Jeyaseelan and Mrs. Thendral Gopinath on 31st July 2013.

     

    Ms. Shaila, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Ms. Sujatha Niranjan, Manager Information Systems and Mr. Augustin Joe, Trainee interacted with the students. The awareness was conducted in two sessions – in the morning and at noon. The sessions were handled by Mrs. Sujatha and Mr. Augustin Joe. The following were discussed and displayed to the students

    • Initial phase of MOHAN Foundation
    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation
    • Functions of vital organs of human body
    • Ways to keep healthy
    • Concept of organ donation
    • Types of donors
    • Types of death  brain death and cardiac death
    • Brain Death and coma
    • Donor card
    • Helpline

    The queries asked by the students were

    • What if they keep money as a demand to donate the organs? Will the organ retrieval take place?
    • Any failures in organ transplantation coordination?

    The donor registry was filled by the students and donor cards and brochures were also distributed to the students. 60 donor cards were picked up.
