National Institution for Quality and Reliability celebrates TOI’s Organ Donation Day with MOHAN Foundation

  • To commemorate the Times of India’s (TOI) Organ Donation Day, National Institution for Quality and Reliability (NIQR), organized an awareness session on Organ Donation for their employees and the students of Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering college on 13th August 2015. Mr. C.V. Gowri Shankar, Secretary, NIQR invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver the talk. Ms. Gieetha, Transplant Coordinator represented MOHAN Foundation. 

    The Programme started at 7:10 pm in the Conference Hall of Meenakshi Sundrarajan Engineering College, Dr. Ms. Babai, Principal, Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College & NIQR National Committee Member presided over the session and Mr. C. V. Gowri Shankar, and NIQR Chennai Secretary introduced the speaker. Following that Ms. Gieetha, delivered a talk on Organ Donation.  In her talk she explained the following:

    Importance and need of organ donation

    •  
        • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
        • Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
        • Organs and tissues  that can be donated in cardiac death and brain death
        • Eye donation
        • Preservation time of organs
        • Importance of Donor card, helpline number and website.

     

    It was a very interactive session. The participants raised queries about organ sharing and allocation, contraindications in donating organs and tissues, whom to be contacted in case of emergency. At the end of the session Priceless Gift brochures were distributed and 35 people supported this noble cause by picking up the donor cards.
