MOHAN Foundation conducts an organ donation awareness session for the engineering students at Amritha Viswa Vidyapeetham

    On 8th November, 2013 an awareness talk on organ donation was organized by students of the Mechanical Department, Amritha Engineering College, Kollam. The students of Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham, Amrithapuri campus are expected to participate in Student Social Responsibility (SSR) projects as part of their education. These projects inculcate the students with a sense of social commitment and self service. They invited Mrithasanjeevani (Deceased Donor Programme) to educate the students about organ donation as a part of the SSR.

     

    The session was conducted by Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, deputed to Mrithasanjeevani. The main topics discussed on during the talk were:  Activities of Mrithasanjeevani, myths in organ donation, deceased donation in Kerala, Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994, types of donation, importance of organ donation, eye donation, difference between natural death, coma and brain stem death, importance of donor card, KNOS website and Toll free organ donation helpline number. 

     

    Around 70 students participated in the session. All the students pledged their organs by signing the donor card.
