MOHAN Foundation conducts a Community Programme on Organ Donation at Ponneri

  • On 04th January 2014, MOHAN Foundation organised a awareness program on Organ Donation at Ponneri, Kanchivayal Village, Chennai. The purpose of the programme was to educate the public  on organ donation.  Mr. Prakash K, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai was the resource person for the talk.

     

    The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Ravi, President-Tank Water User Association. Mr. Prakash K. delivered a talk on organ donation. In his session he covered following topics: Importance of Organ donation, difference between the brain death and coma, Eye donation, what organs can be donated, the importance of donor card and the toll free helpline.  

     

    In the programme the participants were the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) workers and 50 of them participated. They showed good interest to support for cause. The following questions were asked by the public such as how the organs are allocated, whom to contact in the case of natural death for eye donation and all the questions were answered by the transplant coordinator. Finally the Mr Ravi, gave a  vote of thanks and promised that he will be arranging another programme in the village. Totally 80 Donor Cards were signed by the villagers
