Information on organ donation given to outpatients at a private hospital in Nagpur

  • On 22 July 2016, Superspeciality Hospital, Nagpur, invited MOHAN Foundation to speak about organ donation to the outpatients. Dr. A. Dani arranged the stall where MOHAN Foundation displayed information brochures, donor cards, standees and a banner.   Mr. Bulu Behera & Ms. Kanchan Shewde Transplant Coordinators managed the stall.

    Information on the following topics was given to outpatients.

    Types of death.

    Who can donate organs and whet is the value of a donor card?

    In the case of a Brain Death what are the organs and tissues which can be donated?

    In the case of a Natural Death what tissues can be donated?

    Tissue and organ donation by living person.

    What is the priority list for organ recipient?

    What is the difference between coma and brain death?

    MOHAN Foundation activities and information sources like the helpline number.

    40 patients visited the stall. After understanding about organ donation, 3 people signed the pledge form. Most of them wanted to discuss with their family, so they did not pick a donor card.

    The Transplant Coordinator also requested them to visit the MOHAN Foundation website and use the helpline number.

    Question asked by visitors:-

    1) Whom does one contact for eye donation?

    2) If we sign a consent form, after my death how will MOHAN Foundation come to know?
