HUGE RESPONSE TO “ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS” RALLY

  • The National Organ Donation day was observed on 13th August 2016 Nagpur. The program was held jointly by the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Nagpur, MOHAN Foundation (Nagpur), NSS units Colleges under the Nagpur University & Matru Sewa Sangh   (MSS) Institute of Social Work.

     

    An awareness rally which was flagged off from the MSS  Institute of Social Work, Bajaj Nagar, Nagpur at 9.30 a.m. by  Mr. John Menachery, Principal of MSS Institute of Social work  and Doctor in the making  Miss Juhi Pawar, the Brand Ambassador of Organ Donation Promotion, Govt. of Maharashtra.  Over one thousand two hundred people participated in the rally. The rally ended at LAD College, Shankar Nagar after passing the two kilometer route of West High Court Road.

     

    A street Drama Troupe of MSS Institute of Social Work, performed before the start of the rally, at Shankar Nagar and at the concluding programme in the LAD Auditorium to drive home the point of “Organ Donation.”

     

    The formal function was held at the Auditorium of LAD College. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Siddharthavinayaka P.Kane, Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. The Guest of Honour Ms. Juhi Pawar is a 23 year-old medical student who is the brand ambassador of organ donation of Maharashtra. Juhi had donated 70% of her liver to her father who required a liver transplantation due to complication of Hepatitis. Commending her bold decision the Government of Maharashtra made her the Brand Ambassador to promote organ donation awareness amongst the youth. Juhi, had participated in the Miss India pageant in 2013. She is a second-year MBBS student at K J Somaiya Medical College in Sion.  She appealed the youth to come forward and pledge their organs and get the blessings from the sick beneficiaries, in case unfortunate events strike them.

     

    Prominently present on the dais were Principal LAD College of Dr. Shyamala Nair, Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director MOHAN Foundation Nagpur, Miss Juhi Pawar, Shri  Bhau Daydar, NSS Coordinator, RSTMNU, Dr. John Menachery, Principal MSS Inst. Of Social Work, Dr. Keshao Walke, Dist. NSS Coordinator, Dr. B.G. Waghmare, President ZTCC.  All the speakers made appropriate speeches and shed light on different aspects of the movement and changes needed in the Indian society mindset. The event was supported by Alexis Multispeciality Hospital, Nagpur, who will actively support the cause of organ donation in their hospital as stated by Director Operations Mr. Suraj Tripathi.  Mr. Keshao Walke proposed the vote of thanks.
