CME on, “Consensus on Deceased Transplant Program,” at Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi

  • On May 13, 2015, a CME on “Consensus on Deceased Transplant Program” was organized in the 4th floor auditorium at Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh. MOHAN Foundation was invited as speaker for the same.

     

    The CME started with a welcome address by Dr. Archana Bajaj (Medical Superintendent) where she welcomed all the participants and stressed upon the importance of the deceased organ donation program. Dr. Waheed Zaman (Senior Consultant, Urology) spoke on, what is the need of deceased donor, Dr. Goswami spoke on, 'deceased donor selection,' and Dr. Sonal Gupta (neurosurgeon) took the session on, ‘brain death.'

     

    Dr. Muneet Sahi (Senior Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation) spoke on the Tranplant law (THO Act) and explained in brief the legal aspects of organ donation. She clarified the doubts and queries raised by the participants during the presentation. Ms. Sonam Choedon (Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation) gave an overview on the role of a transplant coordinator and counselling and also stressed on the importance of the role the neurologists and neurosurgeons play in the whole process.

     

    The CME concluded with an interactive discussion involving all the participants regarding issues like the dilemma faced by the neurologist/neurosurgeons regarding the kind of information that has to be given while counseling the relatives of the brain dead patient especially after the first apnoea test, who would foot the bill if the recipient is from some other hospital and how and who will coordinate with the retrieval team if the organ is being shared with some other hospital.

     

    25-30 people attended the CME.
