Awareness talk on Deceased Organ Donation for social work students of Phulbani, Odisha

  • On 7th March 2014 Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation Nagpur Centre, was invited by Dr. Bilash Chandra Mantry Principal of Phulbani College of Social Work, Kandhamal District, Odisha to speak to  students as well as staff of the college about Deceased Organ Donation.

     

    Mr. Bulu Behera gave a talk which  explained the concepts of organ donation. He spoke on  the functions of brain stem  and about the causes of brain death – why organ donation is only possible in case of brain death.  He highlighted which tissues and organs can be donated after Brain death, Natural death & while living. He emphasized the importance of pledging organs and the consent of the family for organ donation to be done.  A brain death patient can help several organ failure patients get a second life.  He also explained the vital role played by the grief counsellor in the process of organ donation.

     

    After the talk some question raised by participants such as given below.

    1. Where is MOHAN Foundation Office?

    2. Is it possible to open MOHAN Foundation office in Odisha?

    3. What are the processes of Eye donation?

    4. What is the process for kidney transplant?

     

    34 participants were attended the talk and one signed the pledge form. At the end Dr. Bilash Mantry gave a vote of thanks to Mr. Bulu Behera as well as staff and students of Phulbani College of Social Work.
