On August 16, 2016, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for faculty and students pursuing BDS and MDS at Manav Rachna Dental College at Manav Rachna Campus, Sector 43, Faridabad.
Manav Rachna Dental College was established in 2006 and is recognised for BDS and MDS degree by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and Dental Council of India and is affiliated to Pt. B. D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak. It is one of the flagship institutions of Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI), one of India's leading educational groups and is the brain child of renowned educationist and philanthropist, Dr. O. P. Bhalla, President MREI.
Dr. Meena Jain, Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, coordinated with Foundation's office at Gurgaon to organise the session in the college. Dr. Nisha Rao introduced the speaker to the participants and gave a small brief about MOHAN Foundation.
Dr. Muneet's talk focussed on basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation, cornea donation, brain death/coma, tissue donation after cardiac death and Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994. A five minute video on brain death was shown while the concept of brain death was being explained to the students. There were few queries from the faculty that were dealt in a professional manner.
At the end of the session, a questionnaire on organ donation and transplantation prepared by Dr. Meena Jain was given to the students to answer so as to gauge their post talk awareness level. The results of which are awaited.
The session concluded with Dr. Arundeep Singh, Principal, Manav Rachna Dental College and Major General P. N. Awasthi VSM, Advisor - Dental & Allied Sciences thanking Dr.Muneet for a very informative talk on organ donation.
Around 80 participants attended the talk and 50 donor cards were picked up.
