  • On March 28, 2015, MOHAN Foundation conducted a talk on organ donation for the police personnel of Sadar Police Station in the station’s premises located in Islampur, Sector 38, Gurgaon.

Shri Vijay Kumar (SHO, Sadar Police Station) took the initiative to organize the talk for his staff because he supports the cause of organ donation and wanted to sensitize his staff on the same. The talk was coordinated with the support of Col Rajeev Vasandani (Head-Security, Artemis Hospital). Sadar Police Station has strength of 72 police personnel and around 32 attended the session, which included the main inspectors and constables.

The main aim of the session was to stress on the importance of the role of the police in the process of organ donation in medico legal cases.

Dr. Muneet started the session by introducing the concept of types of deaths and mainly focusing on brain death. She explained to them the importance of conducting an early inquest in medico legal cases where the family of the deceased has agreed to donate the organs. She also added that this way the doctors could expedite the process of organ retrieval that in turn could hasten the process of transplant. She concluded her session by encouraging them to be role models for their fellow villagers by signing up for organ donation.

Post the session there was an active discussion on the problems that MF counselors face while counseling the relatives of bran dead patients across different hospitals of Haryana. In response, the police personnel spoke about the rigid mentality of the village people attributing it to lack of education. The discussion ended with Shri Vijay Kumar extending his support to organizing more such awareness sessions both in the city as well as nearby villages of Gurgaon.

16 donor cards were picked up.
