Awareness Talk for Nurses of Hindu Mission Hospital

  • On March 22, 2013 a presentation on Organ Donation was made for the nurses of Hindu Mission Hospital, Chennai. The talk mainly emphasized on the role nurses can play in the success of a deceased organ donor program and how they can work closely with the doctors and the Transplant Coordinators in identifying potential donors, educating families and maintenance of the brain death patient.

     

     

    First Session: Staff nurses

    Second session: First year nursing students

    Third Session: All other nursing students

    All together 67 nurses and 8 staff were given the awareness talk.  

     

     

    Some of the topics discussed were brain death, who can donate, what organs can be donated, THO Act, ways of transplantation  and eye donation. A short film on Organ Donation was shown to the nurses. All the participants (67) picked up donor cards and pledged their organs.
