On March 23, 2024, Mr. Gabriel from the MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness talk for the members of the All Goa Senior Citizens’ Federation at Arihant Apartments, Margao, Goa.

 

Mr. Gabriel presented a PowerPoint on the MOHAN Foundation and the significance of organ donation. He demonstrated to the members the significant disparity between organ demand and supply. He inquired of the members which organs and institutions in Goa performed transplants. He then shared with them the names of the transplant centers, the number of individuals on the kidney transplant waiting list, and the guiding principles for sharing organs with other transplant centers, as organs are a national resource, and paired organs must be shared.

 

He advised them to undergo regular blood and urine tests to assess creatine levels and protein in the urine, USG abdomen and pelvis examinations every six months, and an annual eye examination for those with diabetes or hypertension.

 

Four members signed up for organ donation, and two consented to whole-body donation by taking the prescribed form. Twenty Gift of Life flyers were distributed.
