Sensitization Programme for the Nurses In Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital

Mr. Ananth and Ms. Sunitha, Transplant Coordinators MOHAN Foundation organized a sensitization programme for nurses in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on 25th July 2013 in Trauma Emergence unit (205/206) and Cardiology ICU on Brain Death and the importance of Organ Donation.

 

Ms. Sunitha, talked about the importance of organ donation and what organs can be donated before and after the death. In addition, the following topics were covered.

 

  1. Who can be a donor?
  2. What is Natural or Cardiac Death?
  3. What is Brain Death?
  4. What are the different between Brain Death and Coma?
  5. What are the organs and the tissues can be donated after Brain Death?
  6.  Importance of a Donor card?
  7. Organ donation protocol followed in RGGGH?

 

Mr. Ananth explained about the role of and nurses during maintaining the brain death patient and the role transplant coordinator during transplantation. He also explained about the donor card and who pledges with a donor card. Totally 13 nurses participated in the programme and expressed their wish to pledge their organs by signing the donor form. 

 

Queries raised during the interaction were:

  1. If there is cardiac death in the house, who should be contacted for eye donation?
  2. How to register for organ transplant?
  3. To whom should we inform our wish for organ donation?
