MOHAN Foundation invited to conduct organ donation awareness talk at, Antar Bharati Homeopathic Medical College, Nagpur

Mr. Bulu Behera from MOHAN Foundation and Dr. Ravi Wankhede were invited by Dr. Surekha Ramkrishana Wankhede, HOD & Associate professor of Department of community medicine of Antar Bharati Homeopathic Medical college, Dabha, Nagpur to gconduct an organ donation awareness session for Medical students as well as doctors.  Dr. Wankhede gave information regarding organ donation. The program was conducted at conference hall on 28th April 2023. Dr. Prashant Narayan Bharbat, Principal & Professor, Dr. Surekha Ramkrishna Wankhede HOD & Associate Professor Department of Community Medicine were presented at the program. 

Dr. Ravi Wankhede gave information to participants which are given below:

  • What is organ donation? Who can donate an organ?
  • What is brain death and natural death?
  • After brain death, which organs and tissues can be donated?
  • After natural death, which tissues can be donated, and what are the time factors?
  • What is the difference between coma and brain death?
  • Is organ donation possible if the patient is in a coma?
  • Live person, which organs can be donated, and what are the criteria for live donation?
  • Information regarding body donation and eye donation
  • What are the legal and ethical implications of organ donation?
  • What does the Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994 say about organ donation?
  • What is the role of NOTTO, ROTO, SOTTO, ZTCC, and the MOHAN Foundation in organ donation?
  • Historical aspect of organ donation.
  • What are the time factors for organ donation?

It was an interactive session and the participants asked the following questions:

  • What are the tests required for brain death declaration?
  • After brain death what is the time factor for organ donation?
  • Hand transplant is possible in Nagpur?

Dr.Wankhede then requested all the visitors to use the Foundation's website and helpline number for any information on organ donation or for online pledging of organs. About 150 students attended the session, and 13 of them signed up for organ donation.
