Training of Organ Donation Ambassadors conducted via zoom interaction

The Organ Donation Ambassador training of the batch 17 was held on Aug 20, 2022 through a zoom meeting.  6 trainees attended the Module 2.  The resource persons for the training were Dr Vaishali Bharambe,  DY Patil Medical College and Hospital,Pune, Dr Balaji Krushnan,  Consultant Nephrologist, Kauvery Hospital, Chennai, Dr Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee MOHAN Foundation, Chennai and Mrs Kavitha Aneesh, Transplant Coordinator Trivandrum.  MOHAN Foundation team of Dr Muneet Kaur Sahi and Dr Hemal Kanvinde conducted the training. 

 

Dr. Hemal led the training with an introduction of the Ambassador program and what is expected from them.  Next the trainees introduced themselves, one was a nurse who had coordinated two deceased donations and a few live transplants in Command Hospital, Pune. 

 

The next session was a Q&A session. The trainees asked many queries, such as:  Can child get a parent kidney, causes of kidney failure in children, what happens if a organ failure pt from armed forces is transferred and has to register in another state, How can the seniority on the waitlist be maintained, the differences in processes in body donation, and about ethical dilemmas in deceased donation. All questions were answered. 

 

The next session was on how to create awareness among communities. Dr Hemal used an illustrative presentation and spoke of ways to reach out to people. The methods discussed were talks, kiosks, social media, competitions, endorsements by eminent people, rallies and marathons. She promised to help all the Ambassadors with materials from MOHAN Foundation. 

 

The last session was on Gratitude Communication. Dr Muneet gave a transplant recipient based scenario to the participants and asked them to write a thank you letter. She gave a few tips to the participants.  The participants read out their letters. It was an eyeopening session for them. 

 

The zoom based interaction ended with Dr Hemal requesting them to plan their activities and to send in their reports and pictures to her. She also reiterated that MOHAN Foundation will always be of help to them.
