On 13^th August 2022, on the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help the Poor Foundation set up an information desk and conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH) Nagpur.

Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi -Transplant Coordinator, was the resource person. She had organised Rangoli Competition for hospital staff as well.

In her talk she explained the following topics:

• Difference between cardiac death and brain death
• Organs and tissues that can be donated in both these cases
• New advancement like process of hand transplantation was shared
• Tissue donation (skin, eyes and bones)
• Organ donation that can happen in case of brain death and number of lives that can be saved.
• Successful transplant stories, articles and news about green corridor was shared
• Myths related to organ donation and the actual facts was presented
• Importance of carrying a donor card and sharing the wish to be an organ donor with one’s family was discussed.

 

Around 189 people attended the awareness session and about 128 people including staff took pledge to become organ donors. The information desk was manned outside the OPD section, banners and standees were also displayed. Around 260 students and staff visited the stall and were given information on organ donation. A rally was also organized at the hospital premises.
