Cycle Rally for Organ Donation Awareness by NSS volunteers

To commemorate National Organ Donation Day, an awareness cycle rally was organized by S A College of Arts and Science (SACAS) in association with MOHAN Foundation on August 12, 2022. 73 students and a young volunteer from Hyundai participated and cycled 32 km spreading awareness on Organ Donation and Transplantation. Tamilnadu Police extended their support by escorting the cyclists throughout the journey and MMM hospital with ambulance and 3 medical professionals. The cyclists were supported MOHAN Foundation with t-shirts with Organ Donation awareness, information boards with attractive Slogans on Organ Donation and breakfast for the participants.

The Rally commenced with a brief event at SACAs, where the guests of the events were welcomed by Dr. Malathi Selvakumar, Principal and Dr. Sayi Satyavathi, Director. After Tamizhthaai Vazthu, the guests, Dr. Sunil Shroff, Manging Director - MOHAN Foundation, Mr. Narayanan, Chief Executive – AMM Foundation, Dr. Vaneeta Aggarwal, NSS coordinator – University of Madras and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer – MOHAN Foundation, were introduced to the gathering and the journey begun with a flag off. 

The cycling started at SACAS by 7.45 hrs and reached Mettupalayam, a hamlet village in Kannapalayam Gram Panchayat. Mr. Adhikesavan, Village President and Mr. Arunachalam, Vice President had mobilised the villagers near Community Hall, who welcomed the cyclers and provided refreshments. Mr. Adhikesavan and Mr. Arunachalam expressed their gratitude and appreciated the act of good deed. From here the cyclists resumed the rally and paused at Kannamapalayam Village, near Panchayat building to have breakfast. 

Then the students cycled through Soranjeri, Sorancherry, Anaikattucherry, Thandurai, and reached Pattabiram the all took a short break to get hydrated and distribute information pamphlet to the public. Then all continued the journey through Thirumullaivoyal, Avadi and reached Murugappa Polytechnic College where they took the final break.  Mr. Ganesh, Marketing Coordinator – MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Nagashree and Ms Gayarthri interns conducted an awareness program on Organ Donation and Transplantation for the students of Polytechnic College.

 

The students after refreshing started the journey back to college and created awareness at Kondithope, Thirumalai Rajapuram, Arundhati Palaiyam, Vivekananda Nagar, Rajbai Nagar, Paruthippattu, Govardanagiri, Mahalakshmi Nagar and concluded they journey for a noble cause at 12.50 hr back at their college. The college principle, director and staff journeyed all the way along the with the students and motivated them through the journey. 

 

A special thanks to the Tamilnadu Police who patrolled all the way and ensured the safety of the cyclists, cleared the traffic and eased of the journey. And a specail thanks to MMM Hopital and Mr  Philip Matthew dy Manager Corporate Relaions MMM Hospital  for his presence and support. Through the 32 km journey over 650 awareness pamphlets were distributed and over 80 helpline stickers were pasted in the vehicles. More than 1000 people were sensitized bythe cycle rally. All the participants were honoured with certificate of appreciation by MOHAN Foundation.
