Awareness Programme on Organ Donation at Department of Psychology, Manipur University, Imphal

On August 4, 2022, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Co-ordinator, MOHAN Foundation visited Department of Psychology, Manipur University, Imphal to deliver a talk on organ donation.

 

The session was conducted with the approval of Ms. Kh. Suchitra Devi, Assistant Professor, along with the other faculty & students of Master of Arts 4th semester, Department of Psychology, Manipur University, Imphal.

 

Ms. Monica began the session by introducing MOHAN foundation, its objectives and visions. Following which the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

 

Points explained in detail:

  • Organ donation and its need in the society
  • Transplant waiting list in India.
  • Facts and myths on organ donation.
  • Difference between brain death and coma.
  • Laws enacted for transplantation.
  • Importance of the donor card.
  • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website.
  • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation.

 

The session was interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and raised queries, such as:  

  • Process to follow if someone wants to pledge for organ donation.
  • What are the certification courses provided by MOHAN Foundation?
  • Can organ allocation be within the same community?

 

After the session, one of the participant voluntarily signed up for organ donation and got herself photographed. Ms. Udayini distributed a pamphlet called “Gift A Life by MOHAN Foundation” to all the participants for better understanding of the concepts of organ donation.

 

The faculty and students were keen in discussing the cause of organ donation with their families and friends. Lastly, the Psychology department extended their support in organizing & participating in more such awareness activities.

 

Close to 40 participants attended the session.
