‘More Power’ to the cause of Organ Donation, as Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited launches an awareness campaign

On March 15, 2022, Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd (AEML) and Adani Foundation, in partnership with MOHAN Foundation, launched ‘Jeevan Amrut – The Sweetest Gift of Life’, a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.

Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson of Adani Foundation was invited as the Chief Guest for inaugurating the drive. Mr. Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive officer of AEML, Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation Delhi-NCR) and Ms. Jaya Jairam (Project Director, MOHAN Foundation - Mumbai) were invited as part of the inaugural.

The grand launch event called ‘Jeevan Amrut’, was initiated with a lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries and senior management of AEML, Adani Foundation and MOHAN foundation. Around 500 employees of AEML attended the event.

Mr. Manoj Sharma, H.R Head – AEML spoke about the importance of committing support to the cause of organ donation and appealed to AEML’s staff.

Ms. Jaya Jairam made an emotional appeal to the employees by sharing testimonials of a heart recipient, who expressed immense gratitude towards his heart donor for saving his life, and that of a donor family, who in their utter grief of loss of a loved one, decided to donate organs so that their senseless tragedy could provide a renewed lease of life to a few others. She also shared that she was alive and happy due to her mother who donated one of her kidneys, thereby saving her life. She then discussed a few concepts of organ donations such as - who can donate, its importance, what can be donated. Lastly, she shared information on the ways the audience could get involved and support organ donation. She encouraged and appealed to each and every one of them to become ambassadors of organ donation.

A skit on organ donation was then presented in Marathi, by the NSS students of Maharashi Dayanand College (Parel) who has been trained as volunteers of MOHAN Foundation. Through the skit, the students creatively conveyed information on the importance of organ donation, types of donors, organs that could be donated, way to pledge organs and where can one contact to get more information. A difficult topic such as organ donation was very well portrayed in a light-hearted and yet sensitive manner, by the volunteers who were buzzing with energy and enthusiasm.

Dr Priti Adani, chairperson at Adani Foundation and the chief guest for the event said “Our low organ donation rate means that half a million Indians sie because they cannot get a life-saving transplant although organs are available. This is a disturbing and depressing reality as these deaths are needless. I am sure that we, as a nation with a glorious tradition of giving and caring, can do much better”. With these words, she set an example by taking the organ donation pledge herself. She encouraged the staff to think beyond myths and act today.

The drive was formally launched with the unveiling of organ donation mementoes by Dr Priti Adani, Mr Kandarp Patel, Ms. Pallavi Kumar and Ms. Jaya Jairam, on the dais. Dr Priti Adani also donated a sum of Rs. 5 Lakhs on behalf of Adani Foundation, in support of the life-saving work by MOHAN Foundation.

We at MOHAN foundation, wholeheartedly appreciate Dr Priti Adani for leading the campaign in support of organ donation. Our sincere gratitude to Mr Kandarp Patel, Mr Manoj Sharma and Mr Shrikumar Nair and their team for their commitment to raising awareness about organ donation. We thank the Management and NSS students of Maharshi Dayanand College, Parel for their continued support and volunteering for the cause of organ donation.
