“Everything you need to know about Kidney Transplants” – a workshop for Dialysis patients

On March 26, 2022 MOHAN Foundation and its Patient Support Group- TRIOMPH (Transplant Recipients of India and Organ failure patients – a Movement to Provide Hope) conducted an interactive webinar on “Everything you need to know about Kidney Transplants”. This Patient Education Programme is supported by Sanofi, SBI Foundation.

Ms. Jaya Jairam, TRIOMPH’s lead and Project Director at MOHAN Foundation discussed at length, various aspects of kidney transplant, such as –

  • Long term cost of dialysis vs. kidney transplant
  • Legal Processes and options for getting a kidney transplant
  • Who can be a kidney donor as per law?
  • Options for Unmatched donor within the family
  • Waiting list registration, allocation of organs
  • What to expect after transplant surgery
  • How life after transplant will be
  • Financial help for transplants for poor patients

 

The workshop also included interactions with a kidney recipient and donor couple - Mr. Mohinder Sabharwal (recipient) and his wife Mrs. Kavita Sabharwal. They both shared their experiences and gave an idea of how liberating a transplant is, while at the same time, highlighting the importance of precautions to safeguard the transplanted kidney.

478 people viewed the virtual workshop and some of the queries raised by the viewers were –

  • Do health insurance policies cover kidney transplant costs?
  • Can a person go to another state and register for transplant?
  • How can I be an organ donor?
