On 27th March 2022, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. V.P.Kalta, District Governor, Rotary District 3080, to conduct Organ Donation Awareness and initiate project “SHASVIK” on Organ Donation in all 120 Rotary Clubs falling under District 3080.

 

Over 500 Presidents, Vice Presidents and Secretaries of all clubs attended the conference. Session was jointly conducted by Mr. Sudhir Dewan, Director, MOHAN Foundation and Dr. Puneet Mahajan, Prof. Surgery, IGMC and Nodal Officer - SOTTO, Himachal Pradesh.

 

Mr. Sudhir Dewan started the session by introduction to MOHAN Foundation and the statical figures of the work done by us in the field of Organ Donation. Dr. Puneet discussed the Brain Death and organs which can be donated, at length.

 

Sudhir gave his own example as to how he got lease of life by Liver Transplant 13 years back and how he has in turn saved so many lives, while working for the noble cause of Organ Donation and Dr. Puneet gave example of having donated his Brain Dead son’s five organs, giving lease of life to five end stage organ failure patients.

 

In this talk, they explained the following points: -

• Organ donation types and who can be a donor
• The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
• They explained 5 myths on organ donation with their corresponding reality check
• Difference between circulatory death and brain death
• Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
• Real life story of an organ transplant patient was shared with the participants
• Importance of the donor card
• How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website
• MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

 

Audience was extremely motivated and got committed to take this cause further in their clubs with club members.

 

Mr. Sudhir Dewan was honoured by presenting “Rotary Brand Champion” badge by PDG Ramesh Bajaj.
