The one-month online Transplant Coordination Professional Certificate course was conducted on the MOODLE platform from 1st to 30th November 2021. There was a total of 44 participants from different parts of India who enrolled for the course (Madhya Pradesh (1), Delhi (5), Tamil Nadu (10), Himachal Pradesh (1), Uttar Pradesh (3), Telangana (2), Odisha (3), Jharkhand (1), West Bengal (3), Kerala (5), Maharashtra (2), Karnataka (4), Andhra Pradesh (1), Puducherry (1), Punjab (2). The participants came from various cadres of healthcare and other professions like doctor, nurse, social worker, patient care counsellor, transplant coordinator, administration, management and marketing.

 

The participants received credentials to access the resource materials made available for four weeks. Apart from email communications, a WhatsApp group was maintained to communicate instructions and notifications regarding the course. Queries raised by the participants were addressed through phone calls, email and WhatsApp chat. 

 

Weekend webinars were held on Saturdays in the evening from 4pm to 6pm where the participants got to attend guest lectures and experience virtual interactions. The faculty for the webinars from MOHAN Foundation were Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director and Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Associate Director - Courses. The guest speakers who contributed was Ms. Rathi R, Transplant coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialist, PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore, Mr. Nikhil Y Vyas, Sr. Manager - Organ Transplant, KD Hospital, Ahmedabad and Mr. J. Nethaji, Head - Transplant Process and Coordination, Fortis Healthcare Limited, Chennai. The webinar enabled participants to clarify their doubts with the faculty. 

 

A session on ‘Roleplay’ was conducted to demonstrate approaching families for organ donation. Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi narrated a challenging situation and participants were invited as volunteers to roleplay their perspectives, experience the family approach and challenges faced in deceased organ donation process. The rest of the participants were asked to observe the roleplay and share their views/ comments at the end of the session.

 

At the end of the training period, an online examination was conducted. A total of 42 out of 44 candidates cleared the exam and received their online certificates. The participants also shared their feedback/ reviews about the course.
