MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness program on organ donation for the staff of AMM Foundation in Alwarpet, Chennai. Two sessions were held at AMM Foundation premises on 25^th November 2021.  Mr. Ganesh C, Marketing Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation helped in this collaboration between MOHAN Foundation and AMM Foundation.

Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, Mr. Ganesh C, and
Ms. Elizabeth Prasanna, Programme Associate of MOHAN Foundation were present for the occasion. After introduction and felicitation of MOHAN Foundation’s staff, the first session began with a video of a recipient sharing life experience after organ transplantation, played for the audience.  

Following this, Mr. Ganesh C started his talk by introducing MOHAN Foundation’s mission and vision. He then introduced the topic of organ donation and spoke about the following:

• Concepts of organ donation
• Brain stem death vs. coma
• Organs and tissues that can be donated under different scenarios
• Ischemic time for organ retrieval
• Donation statistics
• Whole body donation
• Donor pledge and organ donation registry 
• Process of registration for an organ failure patient

The next session on myths and misconceptions about organ donation and transplantation was handled by Ms. Elizabeth. The aim of this session was to clarify the common myths and misconceptions around organ donation in people’s minds and to spread the facts of organ donation.

Following the talks, the attendees had questions and interacted with the speakers. Around 15 people attended the session, and three signed up to pledge their organs immediately. The crowd was quite receptive and clarified all their doubts then and there. Mr. H Narayanan, the Chief Executive of AMM Foundation and other staff who attended the program appreciated the event and were eager to promote awareness about the cause.
