MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Swaraj Mahindra & Mahindra, Kharar, Punjab, Session 1

On 17th November 2021, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mahindra Swaraj Group, Kharar, Punjab to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for Safety Department. Around 32 participants participated in the program.

 

Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death by Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch.

 

In this talk, she explained the following points: -

  • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
  • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
  • She explained 5 myths on organ donation with their corresponding reality check
  • Difference between circulatory death and brain death
  • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
  • Real life story of an organ transplant patient was shared with the participants 
  • Importance of the donor card
  • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision
  • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website

 

At the end of the session, brain death movie was shown to give clarity on the difference between brain death and coma. Ms. Neha informed that major reason behind brain deaths in India is road accidents. She said family discussions on organ donation are much needed. She also explained the importance of eye donation and the whole process of eye donation. She motivated the audience to pledge for eye donation and explained how one could pledge to be an organ donor.

 

The entire group got motivated and convinced to support organ donation. All the participants took the donor cards. They would love to share their wish with their families and also respect for the body after death.
