Indian Medical Association (IMA) Solapur invites Mrs. Jaya Jairam for a Panel Discussion on ''Organ Donation - Myths and Facts''

A panel discussion was conducted by IMA Solapur, on 11th August, 2021 at 7.30 PM, on 'Organ Donation - Myths and Facts'. It was conducted as a hybrid meeting. 

 

Mrs. Jaya Jairam was invited as one of the panelists alongside Dr. Sujata Patwardhan (Director - ROTTO SOTTO, Mumbai), Dr. S. Vasudev (Chairperson, IMA Organ Donation Committee), Dr. Vivek Kute (Professor and HOD Nephrology, IKDRC-ITS, Ahmedabad) and Mrs. Arati Gokhale (Chief Transplant Coordinator at ZTCC Pune).

 

The panel deliberated and touched upon various matters pertinent to organ donation. Mrs. Jaya Jairam was requested to speak on the following sub topics -

  1. Are there any benefits to the donor family?
  2. How does whole body donation differ from organ donation?
  3. Is any insurance cover available for organ transplant recipients and donors?
  4. Who can give consent for organ donation after brain death. How to deal with differences of opinion amongst the family members?
  5. What is presumed consent? What law is followed in India?

Around 30 doctors attended the panel discussion in-person, around 50 doctors attended via the zoom platform and the YouTube recording had 63 views as on the date of making this report. Thus, around 143 doctors and the public were reached through this programme.
