Awareness Stall at Brookfields Mall, Coimbatore

To commemorate organ donor week, PSG Hospital, Coimbatore invited MOHAN Foundation on December 1st and 2nd, 2012 to set up an awareness stall in Brookfields Mall in the city. The program was a result of a collaborative effort of PSG Hospital and The Hindu.

 

Transplant Coordinator Mr.Vijay explained the concept of organ donation, and legal process involved. He also stressed the importance of wearing helmets while driving as most of the visitors were youngsters. The Social Workers from PSG Hospitals Mr. Prabakar, Ms. Nithya, Ms. Mekala, and Ms. Pradeepa briefed the visitors on Brain Death and clarified the queries to the public.

 

Dr. J. S Bhuvaneswaran, Cardiologists and Medical Director of PSG Hospitals talked about the growing importance of organ donation and the need for creating more awareness among the people. Dr. G. Venu, Nephrologist, PSG Hospitals shared information on who were eligible to donate and who are in need of an organ.

 

Mrs. K. Pushavathi, mother of a donor was present at the venue. She donated the eyes, liver, and kidneys of her son, G. Naveen Kumar, a student of PSG College of Technology. She urged people to pledge their organs.  

 

Ms. Viji from Radio City had one to one interaction with the public on their awareness on Organ Donation.  She explained that a potential brain dead donor can save the lives of at least four patients suffering from end stage organ failure.

 

Dr. J. S. Bhuvaneswaran thanked MOHAN Foundation for their contribution in promoting the concept of Organ Donation to people from all walks of life.  At the end of the two-day program, more than 150 young people pledged their organs by signing the register placed at the helpdesk of Brookefields Mall.
