Mrs. Ranjini Shankar, Project Manager – MOHAN Foundation, Bengaluru, in coordination with Mr. Sandeep, Inspector of the Parappana Agrahara Station conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the station’s officers on 24th July 2021. Mrs. Ranjini initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and then she explained the concepts of organ and tissue donation and the types of death i.e., cardiac death and brain death. She also discussed in detail, brain death declaration and the procedures of deceased organ donation and living donation. Eye donation, skin and bone donation were also covered. Barriers to organ donation i.e., myths and facts related to organ donation and how they impact the minds of the public were highlighted. Mrs. Ranjini explained the importance of donor card and how one can become an organ donor and elaborated on the volunteer training activities conducted by MOHAN Foundation for those interested in supporting the noble cause of organ donation. She then shared a recent case from Dharwad in which organ donation was facilitated by the MOHAN Foundation team using a green corridor, to highlight the role of police. The role of Jeevasarthakathe, the transplant law, and the importance of a donor card were explained as well. Towards the end of the session few queries were discussed:
