MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh Session - 244

On 27th July 2021, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the secretary, Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for their First Aid Students at Vivekanand Bhawan, Chandigarh. Around 25 participants from various parts of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh attended the program. The participants included college students, patient care attendants, home nursing, nannies and bus conductors.

 

Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch began the session by asking the participants, what is organ donation and has anybody ever donated blood to gauge their level of understanding on the said subject.

 

Participants were then given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death.

 

In the talk, she explained the following points: -

  • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
  • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
  • She gave clarity on 5 myths with their corresponding reality on organ donation
  • Difference between circulatory death and brain death
  • Age is not a constraint in donating the organs.
  • Real life stories of an organ transplant was shared with the participants
  • Importance of organ donor card
  • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website
  • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

 

The entire group got motivated and were convinced to support the cause of organ donation. Around 25 people were present in the training room and 6 of them registered online for organ donation. They also committed to share their decision to become organ donors with their families. Brochures were also distributed to the participants.
