On April 30, 2021, Mrs. Jaya Jairam was invited to speak about the Indian organ donation perspective, by Neelam Kumar, Best Selling Author, on her Facebook Live Chat show called "The Invincible Talks".

 

Neelam Kumar has authored a book called "I am Invincible", which includes the story of a Mexican donor family settled in the US, whose family member's heart & kidney were donated to an Indian recipient settled in the US. She invited them for a chat show and also requested Mrs. Jaya Jairam to share the Indian perspective of organ donation.

 

The donor's daughter Zaira was accompanied by her mother. Also invited was the heart & kidney recipient, Jang Jaswal. They spoke beautifully about how they have now become one large extended family. Zaira spoke about how her father was a very helpful person by nature and therefore when the time came and they were approached for organ donation, they did not hesitate and thought that this would be a befitting gesture to honour their father's memory. Jang Jaswal shared about how he was fighting for life with multi organ failure and how his life was saved when he received Zaira's father's heart and kidney. Much later, he decided to write to the donor family and when they agreed to meet him, it came as a pleasant surprise.

 

Jang narrated that when they met for the first time, it was an extremely emotional moment. Jang and Zaira's mother had spontaneously hugged each other and due to their height differences, her ear was exactly at the height of Jang's newly received heart. When she heard her husband's heart beat inside Jang's body, she wept uncontrollably and fondly. They now make it a point to meet atleast once or twice in a year and Zaira called Jang "Big Papa".

 

Mrs. Jaya then shared about the organ donation numbers pertaining to India and how India has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world. She then discussed a few myths which hold people back from going ahead with organ donation. Lastly, she appealed to the audience to pledge their organs and gave them details of how to do the same.
