MOHAN Foundation Partners with NAUS for Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation Symposium

MOHAN Foundation was invited to partner with Nepal Association of Urological Surgeons (NAUS) for a symposium on Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation as part of the UROCON 2021 – the 6th Annual Hybrid Conference of NAUS on April 16 -17, 2021.

 

The conference was held at Park Village Resort, Kathmandu, Nepal and a 90 min deceased donor Kidney transplantation symposium was planned within the conference on April 17, 2021. The symposium was a platform for South Asian countries’ urologist to discuss the challenges and advancements related to deceased donor kidney transplantation.

 

Dr. Sunil Shroff and Ms. Pallavi Kumar were the resource persons from MOHAN Foundation.

 

Dr. Shroff made a presentation on how brain death is declared. He also showed the participants a video on the same. In another session, he spoke about kidney retrieval, bench dissection and transportation and demonstrated the same with a video.

 

Ms. Pallavi spoke about grief counselling and speaking to families about organ donation. She also demonstrated with the help of a film, the right and wrong approaches of counselling relatives for organ donation.

 

Some of the other sessions in the symposium were on the law, brain death pathway and indications & contraindications for kidney retrieval. There was also a panel discussion where cases with surgical issues were discussed.
