Sensitization of Critical Care OT Staff conducted at OTG Department of GMCH Nagpur

On 11th November 2020, MOHAN Foundation conducted an Awareness Session on Organ Donation at OTG Department of GMCH Nagpur. It was organized by Dr Vijay Patil (Associate professor) and conducted by Ms Prarthana Dwivedi (Transplant Coordinator) for sensitization of OTG critical care Staff.

 Ms Prarthana Dwivedi introduced MOHAN foundation by explaining that, MOHAN is an acronym for & Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network. Then she spoke about what organs a live donor can donate in case of an emergency to save the life of a family member or a loved one. She then elaborated about the different types of death viz. Cardiac & brain death and what organs & tissues can be donated in each case. The concept of Brain death was introduced and the causes of brain death were explained. She also explained the difference between coma and brain dead and elaborated all the tests that should be performed to identify and certify a brain dead case.

About 28 members attended the session and the informative fliers about organ donation were also distributed to the participants. Dr Vijay Patil and Dr Smruti Gedam of OTG Department also attended the session.

We want to especially thank Mrs Chaya. Jhadhav(In-charge Sister) for giving us the opportunity to conduct the session and supporting the noble cause of Organ Donation.
