Online awareness session on organ donation conducted for the members of Lions Clubs International Dist 3232B1 and B2, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

On November 7, 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an online awareness session on organ donation for the members of Lions Clubs International Dist 3232B1 and B2, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The session was organized by Mr. Himal Parikh, Director- Interface Market Capital Pvt Ltd and a senior member of Lions Clubs International Dist 3232B1. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR and Ms. Bhavna Chhabaria, CEO, Shatayu Foundation were invited as speakers to talk on the topic of organ donation.

 

Lions Clubs International (LCI) is an international non-political service organization established originally in 1917 in Chicago. LCI’s mission is to support the efforts of Lions clubs and partners in serving communities locally and globally, giving hope and impacting lives through humanitarian service projects and grants. As of January 2020, it had over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members (including the youth wing Leo) in more than 200 countries around the world. Lions Clubs International District 3232B1 and B2 are working towards the betterment and upliftment of the communities in Gujarat especially in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli & Patan.

 

At the beginning, Mr. Himal Parikh welcomed all the participants and gave a brief introduction of the session. He informed that the session was organized with an objective to spread awareness on organ donation among the members of LCI District 3232B1 and B2. He introduced Ms. Pallavi and Ms. Bhavna.

 

Ms. Bhavna gave a presentation on organ donation covering facts on donation rates, brain death, organ & tissue donation process, myths around organ donation etc.

 

This was followed by questions from the audience which were addressed by Ms. Pallavi and Ms. Bhavna. Queries were around waiting lists, distribution of organs, brain death etc. One participant who had lost a leg in an accident wanted to know about leg transplant. All these were addressed by the speakers.

 

Close to 25 participants attended the session.
