MOHAN Foundation addresses NCC Officers at Kamptee, Nagpur

The NCC Officers Training Academy (NCC OTA) was established with a view to train the Associate NCC Officer (ANO) and officers of other ranks who are posted in National Cadet Corps (NCC) units in colleges and schools all over the country. NCC is one of the largest cohesive forces of the nation, bringing together youth hailing from different parts of the country and moulding them to be united, secular and disciplined citizens of the nation, aligning with its motto of ‘Unity and Discipline.’

A number of training courses are conducted in order to spread knowledge among the youth of the country who join NCC. It is with this view that the Academy has been inviting Dr. Ravi Wankhede, an Armed Forces Veteran himself, to talk to the ANOs about organ donation and transplantation for the past several years.

On 24th October 2020, Dr. Ravi Wankhede was invited by the Commandant of NCC OTA Kamptee to conduct the session. Two sessions were held for 456 officers. Major Rajput introduced Dr. Ravi Wankhede to the participants at the start of the sessions. This was followed by an audio-visual presentation. He stressed the importance of the subject, including the severe shortage of organ donors due to lack of knowledge. He explained brain death and the donation following it which can help several people get lifesaving organs. He said that organ donation from a brain-dead person is a routine affair in developed countries. In India, although the number has increased, it is insufficient to cater to the needs.

All aspects of the subject were explained and questions were answered to the satisfaction of the audience. Around 93 ANOs signed the pledge form. Dr. Wankhede told the ANOs to take the message back to their NCC units all over the country and talk to the cadets. He said he would be more than happy to talk to the students through webinars.

Mr. Chhaya Debang (Life member of MOHAN Foundation) attended the program with Dr. Ravi Wankhede. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Adjutant Capt. S S. Giri.
