On 14^th August 2020, Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Nagpur, invited MOHAN Foundation to provide awareness about organ donation for their NSS students and faculty members on World Organ Donation Day through zoom webinar.

 

Mr. Dinkar Marathe introduced all the dignitaries & speakers. Mr. Srinivasa Varakhedi (Ph.D. Vice Chancellor, Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University Nagpur, Ramtek, Maharashtra) shared his personal story explaining the importance of Organ Donation.

 

Then Ms. Jaya Jairam introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision. She elaborated on the concept of Organ and tissue Donation by explaining the type of death viz. circulatory and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She also described that the tissue donation (Skin & Cornea) can happen even at home, which caught the attention of the participants. She then explained about Brain death identification tests like Apnoea tests which have to be performed at the interval of 6 hrs. She also explained about the authorities & doctors who can do Brain death Certification. She concluded with the number of Organ Donations that can happen in a case of Brain Death and the number of lives that can be saved. She then addressed the myths about Organ Donation public have and how we can debunk them by illustrating the real facts about Organ Donation.

 

Ms. Jaya Jairam inspired all the students to join in our volunteering program. Details of Organ Donation Helpline No. 18001037100 were also shared. Lastly, Ms. Jaya Jairam shared her personal story, of the struggles she had gone before the transplant, and how her life has completely changed after receiving ‘The Gift of Life’ in the form of Organ Donation from her Mother. She quoted that her Mother has given her Birth Twice.

 

About the 227 participants attended the awareness session. All the queries were promptly answered by Ms Jaya Jairam.

 

Dr. Atul H Salunkhe (State NSS Officer) shared his thoughts supporting Organ Donation and also announced the inauguration of an online NSS Portal in association with MOHAN Foundation and Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University for students to pledge to become an Organ Donor.
