Webinar on Storytelling for NGOs

On May 05, 2020 a webinar was organized by MOHAN Foundation on Storytelling and the resource person was Mr. Kapil Dhatingan. It was a very interesting session in which the resource person talked about how to identify good stories from ones area of work and then delivering them with impact.

 

Mr. Dhatingan is associated with Pragati Leadership as a Management Consultant and Facilitator, conducting programs in Leadership Development and various other skills. He currently also teaches at ISB&M in Pune with specialization in Marketing. He has 3 years of experience in the training industry and holds a diploma in Experiential Education Practice, and is an Accredited Facilitator from Pragati which enables him to create a variety of experiences to make learning more engaging and meaningful.

 

During the session he shared his insight on how people remember stories but forget facts. He pointed out that the best stories are those that spread great ideas and take their audience on an emotional journey and inspire them to act. Effective storytelling for non-profits is a powerful and an essential tool. In order to grab people’s attention, one should make messages memorable, and inspire others to contribute for the cause.

 

The session highlighted that how storytelling as a tool is far more natural and memorable way of communicating information than simply providing facts and numbers, there are top areas where telling better stories can help the organization in following ways:

 

  • Engage the audience look for ways to grab their attention and ensure they are really listening.
  • It is important to bring facts and data to life, or explain complex ideas and solutions in a way that is easy to understand and remember.
  • Move audience emotionally, so they are more compelled towards your call for action
  • It is essential to make the message more memorable, allow us to stand out from the crowd
  • Bridge cultural gaps or language barriers.
  • Achieve greater results and gain more donations, more support, and more awareness for the cause.

 

The session was educational and was well received by the participants. He also made the participants do many small activities in break-out rooms on zoom.
