Awareness on Organ Donation in celebration of ‘World Kidney Day’ at Nephrology OPD

On 12th March 2020 B.J. Medical College and Sasoon Hospital, Pune celebrated World Kidney Day at Nephrology OPD and took initiative to spread awareness about increasing burden of Kidney Diseases worldwide and to strive for ‘Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere – from Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care’ and hopes that 2020 Campaign highlights the importance of preventive interventions to avert the onset and progression of kidney diseases.

Ms Pratima Phadatare held an awareness session on Organ Donation and introduced to MOHAN Foundation its Mission, Vision. She explained the concept of Organ and Tissue donation. She also explained types of death i.e. cardiac death and brain death and showed video on brain death declaration and Apnoea test and procedure of deceased organ donation and live organ donation. She elaborated procedure of skin, bone and eye donation. She also explained about the importance of participation of Staff Nurses along with Doctors in identification and maintenance of Brain Dead cases in hospital.

Around 40 participants including other hospital staff including Social Workers, Nurses, Paramedic staff and relatives of patients, patients who came for follow up in  Nephrology OPD attended session on organ donation and were distributed information brochures, and given information about Deceased Organ Donation and Organ Transplants. About 10 took pledge and few pledges were filled online. 

We are thankful to Dr. Ajay Tawre (Medical Superintendent) and Dr Ajay Chandanwale Sir Dean of B.J. Medical College and Sassoon Hospital Pune for taking up this Unique initiative and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
