Talk on Organ Donation at a NSS Event in a College in Chennai

Anna Adarsh College for Women, Chennai organised a guest lecture on Organ Donation as part of the National Service Scheme’s (NSS) valedictory function on 11th March 2020.  MOHAN Foundation was represented by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Ms. Juhija Rajendran. Around 200 NSS Volunteers from all departments of the college attended the session.  The NSS program officers and Dr. V. Shanthi, Staff Coordinator were also present. The information and registration desk set up at the entrance of the college was manned by Ms. Juhija.  All students were given a green ribbon and an information brochure.

The session began with a welcome by Ms. Jyoti Pandey, Student Secretary of NSS. This was followed by a short film of a recipient speaking on the value of the organ she has received.  Dr. Hemal gave a lecture on the concepts of organ donation and explained the why, what, when and how of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. She asked the students to take care of their health and decide for themselves how they want to support the cause. She gave a short introduction to the work of MOHAN Foundation. 

The students also benefited from hearing a donor family member share her experience. Dr. Marseline spoke about the experience of the donation of her nephew’s organs in Chennai. The story touched the heart of everyone present. At the end a short video on thanking a donor was played. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Sneha, a NSS volunteer.  The program ended with the rendering of the National Anthem.

About 35 students signed up as organ donors and collected their donor cards.  MOHAN Foundation thanks the NSS unit of the college for supporting the cause of organ donation during their event.
