On February 14, 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram. It was organized by the Nursing Education Department of Artemis Hospital for newly recruited nurses.  Ms. Pritee Trikha (Group Team Leader, Artemis Hospital) coordinated the session. Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi from MOHAN Foundation was the resource person and she was accompanied by Ms. Preeti Goswami.

The session began with Ms. Trikha giving a brief introduction of the session. She then invited Dr. Muneet to begin the session. Dr. Muneet introduced herself and her role in MOHAN Foundation to create awareness on a lifesaving cause i.e., organ donation. She congratulated and welcomed the newly recruited nurses to the session and motivated them to join hands in spreading the noble cause. She asked the participants how many of them heard about organ donation and all the participants raised their hands that indicated that the subject was known to them. 

The session began by showing a short film on organ donation. After showing the film, Dr. Muneet explained the basics of organ donation and difference between cardiac death and brain death and the various organs and tissues that can be donated. She emphasized that the nurses have a pivotal role to play in the process of organ donation. Through a program of support and education they can guide donor families through what is, without doubt, a difficult, heart wrenching process.

A short film on brain death was shown to the participants to give clarity between brain death and coma. The following areas were addressed in the talk:

• Organ donation and its need in the society
• When and how does organ donation take place
• Brain death and circulatory death
• Transplant Law
• Organs that can be donated during life and after death
• Myths on organ donation
• Eye Donation

At the end of the session, Dr. Muneet explained how one could pledge to be an organ donor.
