First Organ Donation Seminar organised by the Haryana Government to boost deceased organ donation in Gurugram district

On February 10 2020, Haryana government under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to give push to the deceased organ donation programme in four districts of Haryana namely Gurugram, Rohtak, Faridabad and Panchkula organised an organ donation seminar with MOHAN Foundation as its knowledge partner at Medanta The Medicity, the host. Dr. Rakesh Gupta (Project Director) and his team at the Chief Ministers Good Governance Associates (CMGGA) is overseeing this initiative.

 

The objective of the seminar was to create a much needed discourse that would help strengthen the Government of Haryana's interventions as well to increase the rate of deceased donations in the state. Also to act as a platform for dissemination of knowledge on the subject, as well as a means to derive input for a white paper to be presented to the Government to take forward this initiative.

 

Doctors and transplant coordinators from various government and private hospitals of Gurugram and Faridabad attended the seminar.

 

Dr. Suresh Badhan ex-Consultant, Coordination at NOTTO spoke on the legal framework for deceased organ donation. Dr. Avnish Seth Director FORT, FMRI Gurugram gave an overview of deceased organ donation in India. Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi Programme Manager, MOHAN Foundation spoke on legal framework for Non Transplant Retrieval Centres, Dr. Reshma Tiwari Chief Critical Care Unit, Artemis Hospital spoke on Brain Stem Death identification and testing and Dr. Harsh Sapra Director & Head Neuroanesthsia & Neuro Critical care, Medanta  addressed the participants on maintenance of a brain dead donor.

 

MOHAN Foundation's film on approaching families for organ donation- the good and bad approach was also shown to the participants. Dr. Devansh from ORGAN India presented on IEC material and sensitisation of hospital staff.

 

Other prominent doctors and experts who attended the seminar were Dr. A S Soin Chairman Liver Transplant, Medanta, Dr. Vijay Kher Chairman Nephrology, Medanta, Dr. A K Dubey, MS Medanta, Dr. Sanjay Narula Consultant, Civil Hospital, Gurugram, Dr. Deepa Jakhar PMO, Civil Hospital, Gurugram and Dr. Rajesh Sheokand Deputy Civil Surgeon & Nodal Officer, Faridabad.

 

Close to 45-50 participants attended the seminar.
