Residents and Youth made aware about Organ Donation at Flag Hosting event on Republic Day

On 26th January 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Ms. Padmawati Vasudevan for conducting an awareness session for their Residents and Youth of Osho Residency Kalyan on the occasion of Republic Day after flag hosting.

Dr. Jimmy held an awareness session and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She then introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was new topic for the public. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home which caught attention of the crowd. She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved. Dr Jimmy then explained statistics of Organ Donation & why it is the need of the hour and where India stood on the global map of organ donation.

Mr. Nitin Tambe discuss the various myths and beliefs which led to low organ donation rate in the country. Also he invited Residence and Youth to join in our volunteering program. Details of Organ donation Helpline No. 1800 103 7100 was also shared. The Youth were encouraged to discuss these concepts with their parents and were distributed informative fliers

Mr. Nagrajan Iyer (President of Giants Group of Kalyan) and Life Member of Mohan Foundation also shared his personal story about his Son suffering from Renal Failure who was on dialysis and died due to unavailability of Organ, explaining us importance of becoming an Organ Donor.

About 70 people attended the awareness session. Around 10 persons, including a few youth, who were of legal age, availed of the donor cards.

We thank Ms. Padmawati Vasudevan and Mrs. Rajani Murkute (Local Corporator) for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
