First International Conference on Brain Death Donor Transplant Programme in Chitwan, Nepal |

MOHAN Foundation helped in designing and planning the First International Conference on Brain Death Donor Transplant Programme that was held at the College of Medical Science (COMS) in Chitwan, Nepal on January 31 - February 1, 2020. Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee and Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director (Delhi-NCR) were resource persons for the workshop The conference was organized by the Transplant Unit of College of Medical Science and Teaching Hospital. Organ Transplant program has moved ahead since it started in Nepal in 2008. College of Medical Science has been the first to undertake the Renal Transplant outside the capital, in 2015 on the day Nepal was struck by a great earthquake. As part of the programme, Dr. Sunil Shroff was invited to speak on ‘Deceased Donation in Hospitals -Pathway & what are the requirements’. He also spoke on the following topic:
Dr. Sunil Shroff and Ms. Pallavi Kumar engaged the participants in an activity called “Organ Donation Pathway” to help them understand that the deceased organ donation program in a hospital required the involvement of multiple stakeholders and it is important to enhance the knowledge of all these stakeholders in the organ donation procedure. Ms. Pallavi Kumar spoke about the stages of grief and approaching families for organ donation. Two films developed by MOHAN Foundation were also screened during the workshop:
Post the first day of the workshop, a stakeholders meeting was held with representation from various government and private hospitals and members of Human Organ Transplant Center, Nepal (HOTC) on how to take the deceased organ donation and transplant program in Nepal forward. |
