Organ Donation Awareness at Super Specialty Hospital, Nagpur

On 5th November 2019, the Super Specialty Hospital in Nagpur invited MOHAN Foundation to speak about organ donation to the outpatients visiting the hospital Dr. Milind Phulpatil, Special Duty In-charge of Super Specialty Hospital had extended the invitation to put up an information stall with information brochures, donor cards standees and banners. Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator managed the stall.

Information given to outpatients:

  • Types of death
  • Organs and tissues that can be donated after brain death after natural death and while living
  • How does an organ failure patient register for a transplant and where is the waitlist available?
  • Who can donate organs and what is the importance of a donor card?
  • Activities of MOHAN Foundation
  • Using the Helpline number and website of MOHAN Foundation

Around 26 patients and relatives visited the stall. After understanding about organ donation, 10 of them took consent form to consult with their families and 3 patients signed consent form and received donor cards.

A few questions asked by stall visitors:

  • What is the difference between coma and brain death?
  • After brain death whom to contact for organ donation?
  • What would be the life span of a patient after an organ transplant?
